License Support, Flexible Pathways

Radioactive waste management isn’t a one-size-fits-all challenge, and Curie doesn’t treat it like one. Our licensed programs are built to accommodate a wide range of waste types, regulatory needs, and generator capabilities. Whether you’re managing legacy GL devices, newly discovered NORM, or low-level radioactive waste streams, Curie offers flexible pathways for safe, compliant removal and disposal.

From full-service onsite packaging to approved generator-packed shipments, we tailor each engagement to your facility’s needs. Many projects begin with uncertainty—unidentified materials, mixed waste types, or unclear next steps. That’s where Curie steps in. Our team performs on-location waste profiling, identifies the most cost-effective disposal routes, and ensures every package meets strict NRC, DOT, and state regulatory requirements.

Whether you’re ready to move material today or just beginning to evaluate your waste inventory, Curie’s radioactive material management services meet you where you are—bringing clarity, compliance, and confidence to every step.

How We Move Material Forward

Every facility approaches radioactive waste management with a different starting point and level of internal oversight. That’s why Curie offers four distinct service pathways—ranging from fully managed onsite packaging to direct shipments prepared by approved generators. Each route ensures regulatory compliance and ends with the delivery of a Certificate of Destruction or Certificate of Transfer and Recycling, confirming proper handling and closure.

Onsite Waste Packaging & Removal

When clarity starts at your site.

For many generators, the first step in radioactive waste management is gaining clarity. Whether you’re dealing with legacy devices, NORM, or a mix of unlabeled containers, Curie provides a starting point grounded in expertise and efficiency.

Our Onsite Waste Packaging & Removal service brings licensed professionals to your facility to perform waste profiling and material classification, followed by compliant packaging and preparation for transportation. This turnkey solution is ideal for generators without internal radiation safety staff or those looking to reduce administrative burden.

It’s also where many of our flexible services connect. Onsite packaging projects frequently incorporate Mail-Back eligible items, leverage our licensed disposal brokerage, and simplify the transfer of mixed waste streams—all under a single coordinated plan.

Licensed Material Brokerage & Disposal Coordination

Navigate disposal with licensed confidence.

Once radioactive materials are packaged and profiled, the next critical step is determining where—and how—they’ll be disposed. Curie’s Licensed Material Brokerage & Disposal Coordination service ensures every shipment reaches a compliant, cost-effective endpoint tailored to the material type, regulatory requirements, and your facility’s objectives.

This service is built into every Onsite Waste Packaging & Removal project, guiding each waste stream to the most appropriate licensed destination. It also supports generator-packed shipments sent directly to Curie, where our team reviews documentation, confirms license compatibility, and arranges final disposal through our network of leading recycling and disposal facilities.

Our brokerage specialists handle a wide range of materials—including low-level radioactive waste (LLRW), sealed sources, source material compounds, mixed waste, aqueous solutions, and other regulated streams—and provide support for import/export compliance under NRC Part 110 when needed.

Integrated Support for Mail-Back Eligible Material

Streamlined handling for small-quantity items.

Some radioactive materials don’t require a full-service onsite project—but that doesn’t mean they should be treated as an afterthought. Curie offers flexible handling for small-quantity radioactive items that fall within our Mail-Back Program, even when they’re not shipped through the standard kit process.

Commonly bundled into broader packaging and disposal efforts, these items—such as smoke alarms, Ni-63 electron capture detectors, and self-luminous exit signs—can be collected during onsite services or approved for generator-packed shipment directly to our licensed facility. Our team ensures that chain-of-custody is preserved and all necessary regulatory documentation is provided, regardless of how the material moves.

For generators with limited quantities but strict compliance needs, this integrated support bridges the gap between convenience and accountability—bringing Mail-Back flexibility to projects of any scale.

Generator-Packed Shipments to Our Facility

Self-managed prep, Curie-managed peace of mind.

For generators well-versed in DOT Class 7 radioactive material regulations, direct shipment to Curie offers a cost-effective, low-touch alternative to onsite packaging. This option empowers facilities with internal Radiation Safety Officers or experienced EHS staff to prepare and ship materials on their own terms—while still benefiting from Curie’s licensed oversight.

Ideal for legacy sealed sources, research waste, and non–Mail-Back LLRW, this pathway includes pre-approval, manifest and license review, and verification of regulatory compliance prior to shipment. Curie receives and processes the material under our robust radioactive materials license, ensuring full traceability and proper disposal.

By managing preparation in-house and partnering with Curie for compliant receipt and disposal, generators can reduce service costs without compromising safety or regulatory integrity.
